Lecture and Bacteria Battery No. 5 networked Sound Installation-Performance
The talk will be held in english.

Bacteria Battery No. 5is an installation at the intersection between art and science that developed from a collaboration between RIXC, the sound artist and composer Voldemars Johansons and the biologist Arturs Gruduls form the University of Latvia. They joined forces in the quest for sustainable energy. The installation is part of the overall project Biotricity that experiments with a new generation of technologies to produce "green energy". Bacteria Battery No. 5produces electricity with the help of bacterias, that live for example in dirt water, with additional elements. Voldemars Johansons has created an acoustical environment for the installation that meassures the voltage and translates it into sound.

Rasa Smite, Raitis Smits and Martins Ratniks, born 1969, 1966, and 1975, work with new media and are the founders of RIXC, the Center for New Media Culture in Riga (2000). Since 2009 RIXC works on a new net-based initiative in the baltic-nordic region that fathoms artistic and scientific collaborations in the area of renewable energy and sustainable technologies.
